Ai Disclosure
As the creators of both Letters From Afar and Creature Cards, the foundation of our work has always been original writing and art, produced entirely by a single in-house artist, Shawnee Mills, the original founder.
The use of artificial intelligence has grown rapidly in recent years. For the sake of artists everywhere, we believe it should be used sparingly, with intention and transparency.
That said, AI can be a helpful tool when time and volume are significant factors. Below is a summary of how AI has been used to support Letters From Afar:
-
Destination research: Every destination is thoroughly researched using multiple sources (and sometimes by traveling there ourselves) before the writing process begins. I use AI to cross-check facts, especially culturally sensitive ones, before starting the first draft.
-
Spell checking and grammar: After each letter is written, I send it to my mom, who is a professional proofreader. To ensure there are no errors before publishing, I also use tools like Grammarly and ChatGPT for one final check, without changing any creative elements.
-
Customer service: Our team sometimes uses an AI chatbot on our website to help with customer service questions.
All artwork for Letters From Afar has been, and always will be, created by me (Shawnee). I was an artist by trade before beginning this venture, and the artistic style of the letters remains the backbone of the concept. Thank you so much for supporting my project.
